Writing the Lonely Life

with Lorraine Marshall-Rey, Michael Brockley, and Jeffrey Owen Pearson
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Delaware
in partnership with
Minnetrista Cultural Center

  • We as humans are built for social contact. When we don’t get enough, we face serious consequences to our health, both physically and mentally. The effects can accumulate slowly into higher levels of stress on the individual.

  • This Writing Workshop on Loneliness examines aspects of a lonely life and its causes, such as rejection, heartbreak, death, divorce; how loneliness effects people of all ages; how it piles up over time; and then strategies to use the writing life as a bridge into a positive interaction with others.

  • We will engage in exploration activities designed to have fun and build trust, read poetry published by authors, well-known and less well-known, and share poems brought by workshop participants, if they like. We will use writing prompts to look at ways to make our writing stronger and more resonant.
There is no fee for the workshop, but donations to NAMI of Delaware County, IN, are welcomed.
Workshop limited to 18 participants.
